Gardens for recreation

Is every garden suitable for recreation? We believe so — in various ways! Get inspired by our positive examples of organizing creative events, serving and enjoying garden produce, as well as setting up diverse relaxation areas.

Concerts and celebrations

In creative events organized in the garden, artists' performances are enhanced by natural sights, sounds, and scents. Every year at the end of May, the Lilac Concert takes place at the Institute of Horticulture, while the Rhododendron Flowering Festival is held at the University of Latvia Rhododendron Breeding and Testing Nursery "Babīte". In summer, early music resounds in the Rundāle Palace Park and at the Dobele Castle Garden Festival, while in autumn, concerts and creative activities enrich the Apple Festival in the Institute of Horticulture’s garden in Dobele. Everyone is warmly invited to join these and other events!

Exhibitions, art objects, and installations

In gardens and museums, science, nature, history, and art meet in diverse exhibitions and creative installations. The garden environment is well suited for creating a wide variety of exhibitions, adapting infrastructure to specific works of art — from outdoor displays in the garden to environmental art in the field or children's drawings displayed in a restored hay barn.

A new perspective on the relationship between humans and nature is also offered by the open-air exhibitions at the Green Museum and Elonkierto. We invite you to explore these and other places where nature becomes part of the art and learning experience!

Garden product markets, shops, cafés, and cooking

Relaxing in the garden becomes even more enjoyable when complemented by healthy snacks or even preparing them together. Seasonal harvests and delicious products made from them are available at the Institute of Horticulture shop. Furthermore, every October during the Apple Festival, visitors can enjoy the autumn harvest and crafts market. Local flavors, seasonal products, and culinary experiences are also offered by the Green Museum and Elonkierto. We invite you to enjoy and discover the journey from harvest to healthy treats!

Relaxation nooks for every taste

In every garden, diverse spots are desirable where everyone can find their preferred way to unwind. For instance, the Institute of Horticulture's garden features several picnic areas equipped with white tables and chairs—which have become a trademark feature—as well as multiple glass gazebos. Visitors are also invited to enjoy a leisurely picnic in the garden by bringing their own blanket and snacks. Meanwhile, in the recreation areas set up by the Aizkraukle Municipality, guests can not only enjoy the peace and quiet but also indulge in creative soundscapes on an outdoor drum set.
